What causes people to take risks? Boredom, the need for change, or simply the thrill? At When to Jump we understand that calculated (and not so calculated) risks come from the depths of our being and the need to be more. Stop saying yes to things you don’t enjoy. Stop climbing the same ladder hoping to end up somewhere new. And for goodness sake, stop being afraid to be who you want to be and do what you want to do. Every individual within this community is capable of creating a career based off of their passions. Now go chase it!
and be productive when you don’t feel like it We all get bored at work, we have to admit it. Staying in an office nine hours a day, we’re bound to get boredom struck. The reasons behind it can be various; we’re not challenged enough, work is mundane, we don’t take enough breaks or we just lose concentration easily. It’s normal to happen once in a while, but if this ennui is becoming a never-ending state during your workday, then it might be a sign that you need to make some serious changes to your professional life. Here are 15 tips to try out and you’ll overcome boredom and get back to being productive in no time.
Feeling stuck inside a box? We get that. It can be so easy to feel the walls around you and wonder how to break through. The truth is, we come into contact with inputs and people every day that shape us in new ways that look nothing like corners and walls. You just need to embrace it. Why not start by opening a window?
We all had that dream job as a kid: to be a firefighter, a doctor, the first female President. But at some point along the way, jobs fell into categories, skill sets became the main focus of job descriptions and for some, we lost sight of our passions. Your passion doesn’t have to remain bottled up or given the designation of a hobby. If you want it enough, your passion can become your paycheck. So start today. Begin by writing down your passions and how you believe they can grow into a career. The outcome may surprise you and your inner child will be ever so grateful
The New Year ushers in new possibilities, new perspectives, and the chance to change the aspects of your life that are no longer making you happy. If that means breaking unhealthy habits, making more time for yourself, or jumping into a new career then we’re here to tell you to go for it! Make the next few weeks, the next few months, and the next year be the time in which you start fighting for the life you want.
Tis the season to be thankful for friends, family and our health and wellbeing. We at When to Jump would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all of those who have participated in our journey of becoming the When to Jump community that you see today. So this holiday season we ask you to count your blessings and continue to work towards the one thing that drives your passion. Cheers!
Life is short. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Everything happens for a reason. All of these clichés are true, but until you’re able to experience them their magnitude may never be fully grasped. Each story that we have for you today shines a light on these clichés and will hopefully inspire you to live your life to the fullest each and every day.
The end of the year has a way of bringing many feelings; fear and excitement for what’s to come, celebration and regret for what’s behind us. It can be easy this time of year to worry about what you didn’t do in the months before or about what you’ll have the courage to do in the months to follow. This is normal, but try not to go there because it’s never too late to take the first step toward something you desire. Change—and progress—can happen at any moment as you’ll see from our podcast guest this week and the stories we’ve assembled. Focus on the excitement, not the calendar dates, and just keep following your jump.

Shortly after I turned 24, my finance career came to an early end. Exactly one year after starting as a private equity associate in Boston, I made the decision to move to Denver and pursue a more risky route in the mental health space, bringing meditation to corporations and schools. I believe one of the reasons WTJ is so effective is that it gives social validity to a decision that goes against cultural norms. Conventional wisdom, the topic I’ve written about here, prevents many individuals from pursuing their dreams and aspirations. When the paycheck is no longer enough, and the little voice in your head just won’t quit, we are here. Welcome to our crew of jumpers, dreamers, and individuals determined to live their lives well. A cushy job and playing it safe isn’t what we’re striving towards. We’re looking for leaps and bounds, and the souls that refuse to settle.
